The universe has been incredibly generous to some people who made billions from their years of hard work and dedication, and sometimes out of pure luck or simply from being born into money. Australia, meanwhile, is no stranger to billionaires, with more than 30 of them calling Down Under home.

But just who is the wealthiest person in the country? And just how much are they worth? Join us as we count down the 10 richest people in Australia!

10.Andrew Forrest

Net Worth

$3 Billon

Forrest started his first mining company, Anaconda Nickel (now called Minara Resources) in 1994. Nine years later, he founded Fortescue Metals Group, which mines and ships iron ore to China.

Once Australia’s richest man, his net worth peaked at $12.7 billion in June 2008 when Fortescue shares hit an all-time high. He now also has farming interests to capitalize on China’s growing appetite for meat and dairy products.

9. Lindsay Fox

Net Worth

$3.2 Billon

Trucking magnate Lindsay Fox owns Linfox, Australia’s biggest privately held logistics company, with more than 5,000 trucks across 10 countries in Asia-Pacific. Fox quit his school for academically gifted boys at age 16 to become a truck driver like his father. He bought his first truck at 19.

He is no longer involved in day-to-day operations, leaving management to his sons Peter, who is executive chairman and runs the logistics business, Andrew, who runs the property division, and David, who looks after the airports, and the business continues to thrive.

The company also owns currency-management outfit Armaguard, an extensive industrial property portfolio, a half-share in a business park and two small airports. Fox, whose nickname is “snake eyes,” also owns historic Melbourne amusement park Luna Park, more than 100 vintage cars on display for the public, a race track and four homes, including one in Hawaii.
